The Vicia spp. (excluding
V. faba L.) European Crop Database was established at Bari, Italy, following the first meeting of the
ECPGR Forages Working Group in Budapest, Hungary in 1991. The database is maintained in Bari by the Plant
Genetic Institute (former Germplasm Institute) founded by the National Research Council. The database
contains 5525 accessions representing the Vicia spp. crops and the wild taxa from 11 institutions. The
data have been created by SAS system and until 1998 was stored at the Main Frame c/o High Studies and Advanced
Technology (CSATA-TECHNOPOLIS) of Valenzano, Bari, Italy. From 1999 a new Vicia spp. database was
created by APACHE system in PHP3 data format and needs to be updated after 1995. The work is still in progress.
Limitedly, to the Bari Institute's accessions the passport data is searchable on the Institute Web
site [click here]. A minimum of 12 descriptors are included
with incomplete data for some accessions. At the moment no characterization and evaluation data are available.
