Genebanks

Genebanks contribute to the EVA networks as providers of material. They provide propagation material of the selected accessions of a crop within a crop-specific network according to the conditions of the FAO-ITPGRFA Standard Material Transfer Agreement. Genebanks also provide background information on accessions to facilitate selection and ensure (in cooperation with the National Focal Point) that the existing data in EURISCO is current. Genebanks that are associated members of AEGIS also contribute their unique materials to the AEGIS European collection, guaranteeing their conservation according to agreed quality standards and making them available to users.

Genebanks are often also actively involved in other aspects of the network, such as multiplication of accessions, evaluation and data analysis. Some genebanks are also research institutes.
